How it all started...
Father Dimitris Ballas emigrated from Kalamata Greece in the 60's to Boulder Colorado. He and his wife opened a restaurant called the Acropolis in 1971. Alex was only 3 years old. Dimitris started doing the People's Fair and other festivals that same year specializing in Greek food. Dimitris soon became a food sensation and has been doing festivals ever since, including but not limited to the Telluride Bluegrass for 36 years ! As soon as Alex was old enough he started helping his father with his Greek food business and then Alex attended cooking school in Denver. Alex then partnered with his father creating "Dionysos Greek Food" and was not only doing special events but also selling as a wholesaler to Wild Oats and other local restaurants.
